Doubt

“6 But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all.  Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and blown about by the wind. 7-8 If you are like that, unable to make up your mind and undecided in all you do, you must not think that you will receive anything from the Lord.”

-James 1 : 6 – 8 (GNT)

Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is driven and blown about by the wind. Meaning, whoever doubts no longer has control over his thoughts, behaviors and attitudes, but rather, is controlled by the thoughts, behaviors and attitudes of those surrounding him. Most people probably wouldn’t think twice about the verbiage in this passage, but if you take a minute to comprehend the magnitude of these words, they are truly breathtaking.

Doubt, as defined by dictionary.com:

  1. to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe.
  2. to distrust.
  3. to fear; be apprehensive about.

Using the first line of this definition, consider the following:

  • If I consider it questionable or unlikely, that God created man from the dust of the ground, breathing life-giving breath into him, in order to bring him into being; I doubt God’s creation of man.
  • If I consider it questionable or unlikely, that by God’s commandment alone, He created the very earth on which we are living; I doubt the power of God.
  • If I consider it questionable or unlikely, that angels are capable of existing alongside man, even in a realm beyond the one we know to exist, and despite repeated mention of their existence throughout the Bible; I doubt the word of God.

There may be things that we as humans will never be able to comprehend.  Things like the existence of UFOs or the mathematical dimensions of the universe, are pretty vast, and sometimes vague, subjects.  However, if we accept the fact that we are not going to understand everything we encounter in life, and move forward with the open mindset of “what-if?”, then we are already ahead of the game!

If you find that the mention of any of the above statements, plants a seed of doubt in your heart or mind, then seek out the truth as it applies to your own beliefs, and clear it up! The things we don’t even consider being a hindrance to our faith, are probably the most prominent obstacles we will face. Do not accept things just because someone told you to.  For the love of God, please – UNDERSTAND WHY you are supposed to believe what you are told. Have the answer to any question that might come your way, seek to understand the big picture.  If you get stumped during the process, just ask God for guidance. If you ask, you will receive; if you seek, you will find; if you knock, the door will be opened.  However, do you know what must be done prior to receiving, finding, and having the door opened for you? A conscious and consistent effort on your part for knowledge.

With Love,

DNA Analogy

I had a few more thoughts to add to this post, which is about our DNA coding. Check out the original post here.

The post begins similar to the following, but I expanded on an analogy that was only mentioned briefly…

The Word of God is physically evident through our DNA coding. Our souls receive commands from our body’s “programmer”. This is the same programmer who wrote our program into existence, in order to serve a specific need or purpose. This programmer installs updates and patches to our system as problems arise, in order to create more effective ways of serving our “software’s” intended purpose. Just as we would authorize a computer software update by clicking ‘ok’ or ‘install’, we must also authorize our programmer’s updates. We can do this by listening to what we know needs to be fixed within our essence/being, and then remaining proactive in our “patch’s” resolution to ensure proper installation and function. This update will also help us to better recognize future malfunctions prior to a system crash.

So we can choose to seek a higher state of function, by listening to and doing what will incrementally better ourselves over time, with an end goal of divinity/oneness with our “programmer”. Or we can stubbornly dwell unguarded, in the realm of the physical world, allowing our systems to run without security because we are too busy to simply click the ‘ok’ button. In turn, risking a life full of wasted time and continued frustration.

It is your machine after all, so the choice is yours alone to make… All you need is a little cognition and patience. Please click okay and choose wisely?!

Find the beauty in yourself.

Daily Minutes

Daily Minutes (png)

When beginning self-study, it can be extremely hard to get through the crucial first step, self observation.  It is our human nature to perform learned behaviors over and over, until what was once new, becomes routine.  For example, take your drive to work.  When you first started your job, you might have planned or experimented with different routes, in order to ensure timely arrival each day.  Once you found a route that suited this need, you probably have not deviated from it since.  Because your ride to work has become second nature, your trip might now include finishing your makeup on days you’re running late, or mentally combating rush hour traffic by way of an audio book escape!

You are able to do this, because after your mind performs the same learned behavior day after day, that behavior eventually becomes a habitual action, requiring no thought whatsoever.  Therefore, your mind is free to focus on other, “more pressing” issues.  Unfortunately, examples of this habitual action are found in many areas of our lives where it should not be – in our marriages, relationships with friends, and in going to church or related events.

Because we have trained ourselves into this mess, we must train ourselves out of it as well.  That is why self-observation is so important.  You must first be able to identify these habitual behaviors, or areas of your life that you’ve set on autopilot.  As a result, your mind will begin awakening to the fact that you do not control certain aspects of your behavior.  Once you’ve identified these “mind tricks,” you will begin to catch yourself prior to their execution, therefore improving your self-control and gaining true self-consciousness.

I hope this document helps you in the observation of your daily actions, so that you might begin to awaken your mind to the world around you.  You do not have to record every single day of your life, but when beginning self study, it is important to understand the areas of your life that need the most work.

Man as Machine – Intro to Functions (Diagrammed)

image

I am passionate in sharing the knowledge I’ve acquired through self-study, by modeling man as a machine.  I discovered this method of at ardue.org, and recommend it to everyone I know who might be searching for more out of life.

In this model, we are told that there are moving parts within man’s “machine.”  Each part (or function) operates independently from the other, and each has it’s own “mind.”  However, the overall mechanism of man’s machine is dependent upon which of its parts are functioning the best.  Similar to a car, man has an engine to make him run, wheels to make him move, a steering wheel to point him in the right direction, and even a computer chip to notify of possible malfunction.

Analogies and visual aides are my best teachers.  This is the first in my series on Man as Machine:  FUNCTIONS OF MAN

I will forever be grateful to Duncan Macdonald, for compiling such a large amount of knowledge from various sources, and putting it in one place for me to find! 😉

Top 5 Inspirational Resources:

1. www.gracethrufaith.com – Jack Kelley, the author of this website’s contents, answers any question about religion you could possibly think of – and with the historical context, “pop culture,” and original Hebrew and/or Greek Bible translation to support his point of view.

  • Check out the ‘About’ section, in order to get acquainted with his beliefs and missions, and see if they are in line with yours. If you like what you see, you will not be disappointed in exploring his articles – I PROMISE.

2. www.raptureready.com – Articles are posted daily by various Christian authors, covering a range of topics, most of which correlate current events with Bible Prophecy and End Times. This is the site that led me to Jack Kelley, by way of an article he’d posted.

3. www.ardue.org – This is the first website I’ve found, to have such a dramatic impact on my life. I followed the Hermetic Philosophy Lectures, and recommend them to every single person I meet, because as I said, this is one of the most influential sources of information I have ever known!

  • Self-knowledge is taught using the psychological model of Man as Machine. Keeping this model in the back of my mind while furthering my studies, has helped me tremendously in making sense of the world around me, and the people residing within it.
  • I began this system of lectures a little backwards, as you will see below. It worked for me, but if you’d rather start at the top, the above link will take you to a chronological index of the systems of studies offered:
    • Lecture 10 – Studying Oneself
    • Lecture 4 – Wrong Functions
    • Lecture 5 – Consciousness, Laws and Influence
  • These lectures were written by PD Ouspenskey, who was a Russian esotericist known for his accounts of the Greek-Armenian teachings of esoteric doctrine, by George Gurdjieff (source). I can attest to the helpfulness in which these lectures are delivered, and admit that had I not found this information, I would not be the person I am today.

4. Addiction and Grace: Love and Spirituality in the Healing of Addictions, by Gerald G. May, MD

  • This book was the very first resource I used when beginning my journey toward self-discovery. It was a great tool, helping to identify the things in my life that I did not necessarily think were distractions (or addictions, as Dr. May writes). This is also at the top of my reference list, as far as giving inspiration when looking to discover your potential, or to find yourself in general. I will share an outline I created, summarizing the first couple of chapters, if you would like to read prior to committing to a purchase. (Keep your eyes peeled for a new menu category that will be the dumping ground for all of my notes and other printable documents.)
  • You will find the Amazon link to this book (here), if you’d like to check it out.  The Look Inside option is available, and allows you to view the first several pages of the printed copy.

5. www.biblegateway.com – Out of all the Bible sites out there, why this one?

  • In addition to the Topical Index and large variety of Bible Translations available, Bible Gateway’s, Add Parallel tool, offers the option to study side-by-side comparisons of the same Bible passage in an alternate Translation of your choosing. This tool is a wonderful point of reference, when studying and dissecting passages, aiding in a more complete and accurate understanding of the writing’s intended translation and meaning.

I think that covers it! 😉 I sincerely hope these sources provide you the same level of guidance and inspiration they have provided me.  No matter where you are in life, or the struggles you are facing, it is always comforting to have someone (or something) to relate to – and all of these resources provide that.  I would love to hear any feedback you might have regarding these references and/or their contents!

Until next time!
